Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. ~Leo Buscaglia
I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it for I shall not pass this way again. ~Stephen Grellet

Four Days

Yep, four days until I have to go back to work (except for tomorrow when I just have a meeting from 10-12). Two of those days, I actually have NOTHING planned! I'm contemplating tackling my basement project this week (maybe that will keep me away from shopping for a little while...stroller two weeks ago, pack and play last week, next could be a car seat or high chair...maybe I should wait a week!). I think I have decided on "khaki shorts" as the color, and possibly doing some kind of green accent (or, paint a couple of the walls green, or a green stripe of some sort...haven't decided all the details and I'm not THAT creative!).

I was SO lucky at work today! I just got my two patients from yesterday, so figured that I would be one of the first to get an admission. We only ended up getting one admission all day and it went to a different nurse. For most of the day, I just had one patient since both of them went off the floor for lengthy procedures at different times. I definitely enjoyed that and could hardly believe that I never had to take an admission (making up for those days last week that were kind of crappy I guess)! I got off a little early and went to help my dad with one of his softball games. I got to coach first base. We lost 2-3 (that's pretty bad for SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL!). His other team lost too.

I talked to my friend with the baby for almost an hour on the phone. I think we will meet up at some point tomorrow since she needs to mail a package to her family (one of her daughters is having a birthday on Saturday). She seems to be doing alright (except for the fact that I talked her ear off!). One of the patients in the PICU passed away today, so I imagine that affects all of the parents who have kids down there. When you are essentially living there I am sure you get to know/meet a lot of different people. Praying for that child's family tonight, and for everyone who is grieving the loss of a child.

I need to take out the trash and go to bed. I'm pretty tired, but at least I kind of get to sleep in a couple hours later tomorrow! Good night.

I hope you have a great 4 days off and get lots of things done that you want to get done:) The basement sounds like such a wonderful place in the making. I hope you post pictures as you go along. I loved the Mother's Day pictures too. Talk to you soon.

Love, Laurie in Ca.

I remember that one baby died while we were inpatient in Omaha. It was soon after we "arrived", while Anthony was in-patient. It was a horrible time, and a very somber group of parents. It was so hard to be there, but that time made it worse. Sending prayers to this family.
