I stayed in bed as long as I could before getting up to get ready for work. I did a lot of stuff this week, including some things that took a little emotional energy. No regrets about any of that, but not being able to rest after my blood donation yesterday did not help my energy level. I have never called in sick, I thought we were short a nurse today, and 6:00 is WAY too late to call in anyway. So, as I walked across the street from the parking garage to the door of the hospital, I thought how nice it would be if today was a slow day. Not necessarily a "prayer" for a quiet day, just thinking that would help me get through it a little easier :o)
My patients were assigned for me when I got there. (I had already decided I'd be okay with whatever came at this point, but still hoping it wouldn't be a crazy day!) I was put on a side of the unit I haven't been on since before my vacation, so it was a nice change. I was only given two patients, so figured I would be the first one to get an admission. As it turned out, I never did get an admission. And, both of my patients were REALLY easy. One was a baby who slept all day except when she needed to eat...and I only had to do that once since there was a nursing assistant and a nursing student who did the other feedings. The other one had a mom there for most of the day except when he took a nice long nap. I definitely have NO complaints about that! The "other side" was CRAZY busy all day long, so things definitely worked out the way I wanted them too, even though I was a tiny bit disappointed to "change sides".
So, I checked my email a million times, read some blogs, checked on my facebook, read the news online, and ate a lot of junk food to try and stay awake :o)
I think it is kind of funny that this was my "Quote of the Day" today--"The harder I work, the luckier I get." ~Samuel Goldwyn--There definitely was a little bit of "hard work" going on this week, so I was lucky to get a tiny request granted :o)
Well, it isn't even 10:00, but I am thinking I should get ready for bed. I am used to turning off my lights at 11, but I don't think I can count on two quiet days in a row!
Good night.
