Well, it is 1 AM Vegas time on October 23, 2009, so my 30th birthday is officially over. I received my first birthday text message at 3:45 AM. I got my second at 6:03 AM, my third at 6:35, my fourth at 6:49, my fifth at 6:59...by 8:15, I decided it was time to get up and get ready (unfortunately, it had to happen after I had one of those dreams in between snooze buttons that happened to be a not very good dream...for the sake of having my dream written down, it involved me consoling a woman about my age who had a terminal illness and had decided to stop any further treatment [yeah, nice dream for a birthday morning!] to make matters worse as far as nightmares go, she got lab work drawn by someone else who was careless and stuck me with the used needle, which is probably one of THE worst nightmares of someone working in health care...and then I woke up and went on to have a fabulous day!) I got phone calls, texts, facebook messages, and emails all day long...I already knew I was blessed, but it is really cool to have "documentation" of the extra effort people went to to tell me how special I am and send me happy birthday wishes. It really is awesome to feel that much love (I also get lots of love on days that AREN'T my birthday, but everyone came out in full force today!) :o)
Obviously, since it is "only" 1 AM, I didn't go TOO crazy, but I AM really tired, so the rest of the post will mostly be pictures (of course, when I got back to my room at midnight, blogger was down or I may have been able to write a longer, more inspiring post, but it is what it is...and, I'm thinking I may need to go back to the former way of posting because I'm just not sure I like this new way...especially when I was unable to even find spell check last night!)
My aunt and uncle got to our hotel at around 9:40. After I finished getting ready, we went to the Monte Carlo and met up with the rest of our party. I played some slots and had brunch with "the girls", but also bet horses with the guys in the sports book. I had a couple Baileys and Coffee since it was early as well as a Tequila Sunrise (a guy dropped off a bunch of free drink coupons on our table...my back was to him, so I'm almost certain he didn't see my shirt, but that would have been cool!)
We had a late lunch/snack at a Mexican cantina outside the Monte Carlo and I had a pretty green drink with Midori that was very strong and left me buzzing for a little while. I did get a picture with it, but am too tired to mess with trying to post that right now.
We headed back to our hotel after that so my aunt and uncle could check into their room and freshen up. I met up with a woman from Curves who was here with her husband staying at the same hotel. We sat out by the pool with our feet in and chatted for quite a while (her husband got us Bud Lites). I got a picture with her, but, again, lazy/tired. When I finally got back to my room, I discovered that my friend from high school and her husband had a bottle of Malibu sent to my room...SO sweet!
We had 6:30 reservations at an Italian place they all had heard of, and my aunt and uncle had been to that was near the Flamingo (we took the Monorail there). As it turned out, there were FOUR of us in that room celebrating birthdays. We got a group picture and I talked to a girl named Jessica from Ohio who turned 21 and was there with her family. Here are some pics from the restaurant--
From there, we went to Paris. My money went very far at Paris after I won 600 nickels on this machine :o) I ended up bringing home $5 more than I put in, which isn't a lot, but definitely better than nothing!
We had our final drinks for the night at the MGM Grand. I had my dad do an Irish Car Bomb with me (Ginger's husband told me on facebook to drink a yard of Guinness...well, I'm not so sure I would be able to drink straight Guinness, let alone that much, but I CAN do Irish Car Bombs and actually kinda like them...my dad liked it too!) They didn't give us big glasses for the Guinness so when we dropped the shot glass in, the drink splashed everywhere, which is why it looks like I am holding myself...I was trying not to get it on my white shirt...and, was successful at not getting salsa, pasta sauce, or alcohol on my white shirt which is very awesome in my opinion!
What a great day! My family told me that tomorrow I will have to start buying my own food and drinks...ha!
Time for bed. Good night from Vegas...night two :o)
