I also only had one "day off" after working my three in a row, so knew I would be tired. I stayed up extra late after going to a Christmas concert with my mom, so it was even harder to get out of bed (the concert was VERY fun, by the way, and spending the evening with my mom was nice). The second PICU death in 5 days happened this morning. I am praying that it stops there.
This is an "anonymous" blog, so without going into too many details, the afternoon brought news of a horrific tragedy affecting the entire community. On the unit, our eyes were glued to the television and online news, awaiting word of new information. Phone calls were made to check on loved ones, and to let those we love know we were okay. The story will only get more emotional and "closer to home" as further details emerge in the coming days. This is a "small world", and that worries me.
Luckily for me, these past few weeks/months have brought me to a place where I DO try and take each moment and cherish it. Life's too short to live with regrets.
My friend's son was readmitted to the hospital today. I'm hoping to be able to spend some time with her, but praying this is a short stay so she can be home with her family for Christmas.
It's been a long day, and I only have tomorrow "off" before I go back on Friday. I say "off" because I have a 2 hour meeting and a pot luck at work to follow. Looking forward to the weekend :o)
